Hello. I’m not in the mood to do much explaining here. I just need a place to write about these three prompts so that perhaps I can go to Africa and shed my ego while helping others. I’m not kidding.

The Power of Stories:
What makes humans different from other species? Is it our complex emotions and language, or our ability to work together? Perhaps it’s the way in which we learn by thinking ahead, or the empathy we are capable of feeling even for those whom we have never met. Scientifically, we can sum it up to our brain’s cerebral cortex, known to be the seat of complex thought. As we evolve and grow as a species, as does our brain. We are not the same as we were 100,000 years ago. We aren’t even the same as we were 70 years ago. Yet as our culture rapidly changes and our technology progresses — even as our values change — there is one notably bonding factor that shapes and connects us. Passed down and forever growing, stories have a huge impact on the development of humans. Throughout centuries, stories have had a unique influence on humans as a species, but also on an extremely individual level. Through stories, we are able to learn from and connect with others. If we are wise, we are able to take their circumstances and escape their fate. We are able to figuratively put ourselves in their shoes, and use their past to influence our future — to think ahead. Stories also help us to stay grounded, to comfort and entertain each other, and perhaps most importantly to pose difficult questions that help to evolve our thinking and being. Stories are a result of what makes being a human so unique and transcending. They help us to connect to our past and reflect on our heritage. Stories bond us in the present moment, cement the right values, and turn our spirits upwards in difficult times.
How I Plan To Improve my Life:
With everything happening in the world these days, you would think that I would find comfort in all of the positivity being spread on social platforms. Yet for some reason, I feel myself incredibly annoyed with the one-sidedness of it all. Deep down, I realize this is an issue with me — not Instagram or other people. My opinion on anything is a reflection of myself, something that is always highlighted when I take a look at any negative emotions. You see, sometimes I feel like a huge hoax. An imposter. Sometimes I struggle to do what I know I should, which leads to a hyper critical attitude of myself. The worst part is that having that attitude makes nothing I do enough. This is why I think that the way to improving my life, so that it can have the greatest impact on not only myself, but others — is to show myself some grace. Showing myself grace is the only way to move forward. It’s the only way to let myself make mistakes that matter because doing so means I’m trying. If I can silence the negative voice in my head and meet myself where I’m at, perhaps I can evolve as my highest self so that I can help others as well. Improving my life starts by doing the inner work needed to have an outward effect, and in that, come full circle.
Why Writing is Such an Important Skill:
There are many types of writing. Whether it be a love letter or an email — being a capable writer holds a special place in our world. As one of the most traditional forms of communication, writing is a skill that transcends all technology updates. It isn’t going anywhere. Whether it be personal or for business, a capable writer is aware of their words. Good writers bring intention into everything they write with the knowledge that regardless of what happens to them, their words will live on. It’s easy to dismiss something you said, to just regard it as a thing of the past. But to write something down means to give it life. You can’t take back what you write, and thus you’re forced to take responsibility for your words. Being a good writer is a valuable skill because it builds your credibility. To communicate with others (and yourself) through the words you write builds trust because it makes you vulnerable. It bridges the gap between what you think and what you know. To write helps to form complete thoughts, it gives you a chance to express yourself, and it has the power to help others on their own time. It tells you if you’ve been lying to yourself, it reminds you to look at situations fully, and it helps you to discover the underlying truth.
